The Konrad Adenauer Foundation organized the conference "The Future of EU Enlargement  and the Transatlantic Partnership" in Berlin on September 7, 2020, at which the European Commissioner for Enlargement Mr. Oliver Varhelyi gave an introductory speech. In addition, Mr. Matthew Palmer, Special Envoy of the State Department for the Western Balkans, Bundestag MP and Coordinator for Transatlantic Cooperation Mr. Peter Bayer, Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council Ms. Majlinda Bregu, as well as Chancellor Angela Merkel's Foreign and Security Policy Adviser Mr. Jan Hecker took part.

The conference was attended by ambassadors from the Western Balkans and the countries involved in the Berlin Process, members of the Bundestag, as well as representatives of the Chancellery, the Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy. The first conference was held in 2016 and it is becoming a traditional event to discuss developments in the Western Balkans, the state of the reform process and the region's progress towards full EU membership.
